The rise of diverse religious movements, their mutations into sects and cults, and their totál impact on the choice of motifs and themes by the embroiderers form one of the most interesting parts of the discussion which throws light on relation between folk art and religious faiths. The text is followed by a useful glossary and an exhaustive bibliography. The inclusion of about one hundred illustration and about five dozen colour reproductions illustrating North Indián Needlework, adds to the richness of textual contents. Needlelore is the outcome of methodical field work and extensive survey conducted under North Zone Cultural Centre as a part of its Research & Publication Projects. An invaluable document of India's folk culture, it will be a source of constant reference for scholars and researchers engaged in similar fields of work. Vissza
