The Company The Vitra story began in 195^ with the launching in Europe of designs by Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson. Such was the timeless appeal of these creations from the '50s and '60s that they are still being manufactured today. Our product programme was further extended with models from Verner Panton, Mario Bellini, Antonio Citterio, Philippe Starck, Borek Sipek, Jasper Morrison, Ginbande and other eminent designers. In the '80s Vitra began putting new ideas and talents to the test, by cooperating with leading international exponents of the avant-garde. Every era Imposes its special demands on designers and manufacturers. Now, in the '90s, ecological awareness is the order of the day. But when confronted with this aspect, we discovered that many of our past products were already of positive ecological persuasion. Whatforthe Eames manifested itself as an unconscious philosophical expression of the minimal use of materials, has since become declared ecological policy.
