This album - "Warsaw - A Portrait of the City"-presents Poland's capital of the 80s through the colour photographs of Krzysztof Jabtonski. Looking at the streets, squares, parks, interiors of palaces and contemporary architecture portrayed in them it is very hard to imagine that on liberation day-January 17th, 1945 - the places which are now vibrating with life were nothing more than a vast sea of ruins. Left-bank Warsaw was practically non-existent; on the right bank one in four buildings had been destroyed. The history of the city's rise from the ashes and its subsequent transformation into a modern capital is illustrated by the Chronicle included in this album which has been confined to the most important developments connected with the post-war reconstruction and expansion of the capital city of People's Poland.
