A HISTORY OF ROME

Jr\. citizen of the Roman Empire in the sixth century a.d., considering the thirteen-hundred-year-old history of the city of Rome and the Roman Empire, might have read such a history as this one. It is a continuous narrative composed of passages from the great writers who recorded the story of Rome and who were often eyewitnesses of the events they recorded. Livy, Julius Caesar, Polybius, Tacitus, Suetonius, Dio Cassius, Ammianus Marcellinus, Eusebius, and others — each tells part of the story. Moses Hadas, professor of Greek and Latin at Columbia University, has selected the passages, translated them, and, where necessary, linked them.
Moses Hadas is also the translator of Three Greek Romances, another volume in the Anchor series.
