These six short stories by the young Wodehouse show us Roland Bleke and the six women in his life. We see him as a second clerk in a provincial seed-merchant's office; as a financier's friend; as the owner first of a theatre then of a weekly paper; as a conspirator plotting to restore an exiled monarch to the throne of Paranoya; and last of all in the clutches of the nobility. There we meet Teal (a sinister Jeeves) who, as butler to the Earl of Evenwood (a talkative Lord Emsworth), is scheming to rescue Roland from one matrimonial mess so as to plunge him into a worse one.
