A graded reading series for pupils in secondary schools. These books are intended for use in areas where English is taught as a second language. The linguistic grading of the series is based on sentence structure; vocabulary selection is based on situation. Difficult or unusual expressions and lexical itenns are explained in brief notes at the end of each book.
Both fiction and non-fiction titles form the series. Sonfie of the books are abridged and simplified works of literature; others are about scientific and technical matters which are presented in a highly readable form.
The Modern English Library is arranged in Grades X, Y and Z for the lower, middle and upper forms of secondary schools. Grade Z is for pupils in their fourth and fifth years.
The great variety and attractive presentation of the books in IVIodern English Library encourage pupils to read widely and with understanding.
