This full-Iength personal portrait, drawn by Olivér Warner, shows the little vice-admiral very much as he must have been, in public and in priváté. If he invited scandal by his association with Lady Hamilton and if (as is here revealed for the first time) he kept a mistress at Leghorn, he was alsó the most courageous, the most inteiligent, the most inspired, and - in advance of his time - the most humane leader of men. In such a man the conceit and the ribbons and the medals are only endearing.
