ADAM GAMBLE is a writer and investigative reporter, and the author of In the Footsteps of Thoreau. During the three years of research that went into A Public Betrayed, he personally interviewed more than 150 individuals.

TAKESATO WATANABE is a professor of media ethics at Doshisha University in Kyoto and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University in 2001. He is the author of a dozen Japanese-language books, including Information Democracy and the People's Right to Communicate (2000). He is coauthor of the Encyclopedia of Media & Communication Studies (1999). His next book, The Media and Power Structure in Modem Japan, 79,^5—3000, will be published in English in ^005 through Harvard University's East Asia Monograph Series.
ELLIS S. KRAUSS is a professor of Japanese politics and policymaking at the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at the University of California, San Diego. "Media Atrocities" is exactly the noun to use. The authors focus not on physical, militaiy atrocities, but on the equivalent thing that is being done with Japanese news reporting—mangling, suffocating, killing the truth! Atrocious indeed! This is a marvelously illustrated, in-depth piece of research that is both engagingly written and hard-hitting in its message. A great read.
