Sidney Sheldon has had a most remarkable career. A native of Chicago, Mr. Sheldon attended Northwestern University on a scholarship but left during the Depression to work as a factory hand, checkroom attendant, radio announcer, and songwriter before heading for Hollywood. His career there was interrupted for service in the Army Air Corps. After the war he began to write for the theater.
At the age of twenty-five, Mr. Sheldon had three hit musicals running simultaneously on Broadway. He returned to Hollywood, where he wrote the Academy Award-winning screenplay for The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxe,. He received Screen Writers Guild Awards for the Best Musical of the Year for Easter Parade and Annie Get Your Gun. And he was awarded a Tony for the Broadway musical Redhead.
In addition, Mr. Sheldon produced and directed The Buster Keaton Story and has worked with many of the top stars in Hollywood. He also created two long-running TV series, "The Patty Duke Show" and "I Dream of Jeannie." In all, he has written over two hundred TV scripts, twenty-five major motion pictures, six Broadway plays, and three novels.
His first work of fiction. The Naked Face, was acclaimed as "the best first mystery novel of the year" by The New York Times. His second novel, The Other Side oj Midnight, was a worldwide best seller and has been read by over twelve million people in the United States alone. With A Stranger in the Mirror, Sidney Sheldon has done it again.
