Qufu is one of China's most fascinating historical towns. Set deep in the tranquil countryside of Shandong Province, it has for more than 2,000 years been the center of the cult of its world-famous inhabitant — Confucius. Here can be found the magnificent Temple of Confucius, where the sculptural artistry was so outstanding that it had to be concealed from the jealous eyes of visiting emperors ; the spacious home of China's most aristocratic family, the Kong Mansion — the mansion of Confucius' descendants; the serene Forest of Confucius where 76 generations of his descendants lie buried; and the temples, mansions and burial grounds of Confucius' most famous disciples. Beyond the town are the scenic Stone Gate Mountain where the poets Li Bai and Du Fu shared wine and composed verses, the legendary Nishan Hill — birthplace of Confucius, and "China's pyramid" — the Tomb of Emperor Shaohao. A Visit to Confucius' Home Town is an indispensable guide and companion to any visitor to Qufu.... Tovább
