The many varieties of each part of an adobe house are presented in historical progression showing the tri-cultural origins of our present day architecture and tfieir inspiration for modern living.
To facilitate use of this book as a reference tool each ingredient of an adobe house is then placed in a separate chapter, starting with exteriors and interiors, which in turn are broken down into components such as fireplaces, doors, walls, floors, stairs, ceilings, tiles, hardware, cabinets, etc., with some construction details and floor plans.
An expanded part of the book is the section on fireplace construction featuring the Traditional (Taos Pueblo) way to build an adobe fireplace and then a modern update of that method. In a construction detail section are a few more traditional secrets as well.
The tri-cultural aspect of southwest adobe architecture as well as the three cultures of its people is emphasized in illustrations of the arts such as Indian pottery rugs and jewelry Spanish santos, weaving, and painting.
