AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH CENTRES is intended to be a constant reference for practising scientists and agriculturalists, research veterinary scientists, scientists turning to agricultural problems and trying to find new professional contacts, research administrators, market researchers, and |ob seekers.
Each research centre provides, where available: title; translation; full postal address; telephone and telex numbers; affiliation or parent body; name of head, sections, and senior staff; numbers of r&d staff; activities and programmes; and publications.
AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH CENTRES: A WORLD DIRECTORY OF ORGANIZATIONS AND PROGRAMMES is the successor to Agricultural Research Index, 6th edition. The revised title describes the content of the directory more accurately than the old title, heralds the new format of the more detailed profiles contained in our data base, and identifies more directly with our Reference on Research series.
The reader can locate a particular laboratory or organization either by referring directly to the country chapter, or by using the Titles of establishments index which lists titles in the original language and in translation. Laboratories which are carrying out a particular line of research can be located by using the Subject index, which uses the controlled vocabulary of the British Standards Institute's ROOT Thesaurus.
AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH CENTRES is the third Longman Reference on Research to be presented in the new format. The first was European Research Centres: a directory of organizations In science, technology, agriculture, and medicine published In November 1982. Materials Research Centres: a world directory of organizations and programmes In materials science was published in May 1983. All three directories were typeset from a data base built up from recent questionnaire replies and direct enquiries on rSid organizations and programmes.
The consultant editor is Nigel Harvey, MA, ARICS who has spent many years working for the UK Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and subsequently for the Agricultural Research Council. For much of this time he has been concerned with the collection and collation of scientific and technical information.
