The past and the historical memory of a nation is inherently connected to places of symbolic significance. These chiefly include places of glory and mourning, affording the chance to relive national tragedies and events that fill members of the nation with pride. These elements of a nation's past are, therefore lo-cation-specific and are 'written in spaces'. It is our joint task and responsibility to help future generations become acquainted with, and visit, these places.
Including many illustrations, this educational album presents national and historic memorials and their histories. Readers will find much new and interesting information about known and less known memorials, hopefully inspiring them to go and visit these sites.
