ALDOSTERONE
The present monograph discusses the problems of research on aldosterone, the principal mineralo-corticoid hormone of the adrenal cortex. Both the physiology of the hormone and its clinical application are treated in detail. The theoretical part includes data about the biosynthesis, transportation, metabolism and biological effects of aldosterone as well as a summary about the complex problems of the regulation of aldosterone production, a field with several unclarified aspects. Description of modern methodology is also included. In the clinical part, the role of aldosterone in medical practice is discussed in "primary", "secondary" and in the "mixed" forms of aldosteronism and also in hypoaldosteron-ism. In addition to presenting their own experimental results and discussing them in the light of recent developments in the field, extensive use has been made by the authors of the vast literature.
