This volume contains the thirty-seven papers of Section V of the IGU European Régiónál Conference. Though the papers presented at a conference usually display somé incidental features, in this case the prevailing trends of activity and the rangé of interest of the European geographers are very well reflected in the topics discussed at the sessions. Comprehensive studies have been presented on the Central and East-European countries where urbanization is still accelerating. The geographers of somé other countries reported mostly on partial aspects and phenomena in detail. Interesting alsó from the point of view of research methodology, much information was provided by the lectures on the spread of the urbanization process, on the hierarchy of the úrban network, on the interactions between urbanization and spatial structure of economy, on the expansion of agglomeration hinterland as well as on the development process taking place on the urbanrural fringe.
