Washington's military successes were in part due to his familiarir>^ with the terrain and the new guerrilla tactics adopted from his French and Indian foes in the colonial wars. At the young age of twenty-one he achieved the rank of Major in the Virginia militia, within a year assuming the duties of Colonel and Commander-in-Chief of the regular military forces. As Clark illustrates, his knowledge of guerrilla warfare coupled with his experience with the bumbling British generals would serve him well in the Revolutionary War

HARRISON CLARK, after obtaining his doctorate in economics from Harvard, served in the Treasury and State Departments and as a naval intelligence officer in World War IL Later he served as an economic adviser with the World Bank, where he drafted several economic development programs for underdeveloped countries and was amazed to discover that George Washington had formulated a similar program for the United States over a century and a half earlier. Over thirty years in the making, All Cloudless Glory is the culmination of Clark's research and writing on the subject of George Washington.
