New England in the fall, New York City at night, California on a summer's afternoon - here are aerial photographs that encapsulate'some of the loveliest images of the USA. Particularly impressive are the superb shots of those world-famous panoramas: the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, the Alaskan fjords and the Smoky Mountains - all familiar, but each slightly altered when seen from above.
Yet this photographic collection also includes less well known views of America: homesteads snug in the folds of the Palouse, a secret waterfall hidden from the earthbound in a Hawaiian jungle, fields of almost abstract design seen from high above the Plains. And there is more than simply glorious countryside here. Seen from the sky, the superb buildings of dozens of American cities take on new perspectives, revealing aspects of their beauty previously unappreciated.
