ANIMAL EXPERIMENT S ON THE AETIOLOGY OF MYELOPATHY by T. LEHOCZKY J. SÓS M. HAL AS Y Nineteen series of experiments were carried out in albino rats in order to throw light on the aetiology of the non-pernicious myelopathy of man. This degenerative spinal-cord disease, well-known in the humán medicine, was produced by giving rise to gastric disturbances or vitamin (B1; B2, H, E) deficiencies, with neurotoxic substances (alcohol, CCL4, phosphorus, sulphamide) and by causing diabetes (with alloxan and dithizon) or other metabolic disturbances (with antiglutamic acid). The authors were the first to produce experimentál diseases of the spinal cord with most of these interventions. Thus, the aetiology of nonpernicious myelopathy, which had been suggested by clinical observations scantily confirmed by pathological findings, has been proved histologically by the authors' serial experiments.
