Sidney J. Baker is notable in many other fields. He is Author of two sections in the "Encyclopasdia Britannica" — one on Australian slang, the other on Pidgin English. His work as a journahst and book reviewer is well known to many Australians; he edits the Sydney Morning Herald Saturday Magazine and book pages.
In recent years he has done a great deal of original research in linguistic psychology .^pioneering many discoveries that have attracted attention abroad. He is especially well known for his work in the statistical analysis of language, and in his application of
