This book presents the results of the co-operation between the institute of Humán Genetics, University of Hamburg and the Department of Humán Genetics and Teratology, National Institute of Hygiene, Budapest. The authors summarize the available genetic data and describe the genetic markers thus providing a better knowledge of genetic characteristics of the Hungárián population. Twenty-four genetic markers have been studied in nine ethnic groups and two reference groups. The purpose of the population genetic approach was to compare the genetic results with available historical data on the origin of the Hungárián ethnic groups and Hungárián population at large. The genetic characteristics of these populations may help to understand the disease spectrum and promote the prevention of disorders. The usual method of population genetics - comparison of reported data of different populations - was combined with ecogenetic study. The authors hope with this book, to reveal a blank area on the...
