BEAUTIFUL CANADA The Trans-Canada Highway runs from St. John's in Newfoundland to Victoria in British Columbia. It was opened in September 1962 and the distance covered by the traveller taking this route is somé 4,860 miles-an indication of the vast size of this great country. It is the third largest country in the world, only the U.S.S.R. and China being greater in area. In spite of its great size, Canada has a population of less than 20 millión and this means that, outside the cities and towns, there are huge areas of open country. Here are to be found prairies that stretch as far as the eye can see, mountain ranges, lakes and rivers and forests of giant red cedars, Douglas firs and redwoods. Canada is a land of the great outdoors and as such it is unsurpassable. The extent of the country means that there is a great diversity in climate and this in turn means that almost any outdoor pursuit may be enjoyed.
