There are 28 national parks In Canada and no two are quite alike. Some^are as big as entire countries all by themselves, some can be seen in a day. They range from Pacific Rim on the wild, fogbound shores of Vancouver Island to the eternally ice-bound Auyuittuq, "the place which does not melt," above the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island.
The places between include dazzling mountain peaks, glorious waterfalls, deep, dark forests and rocky seacoasts. There are sandy beaches and frozen tundra, rock formations that are unbelievable, and glaciers still hard at work creating even more fantastic shapes. There are fast-moving rivers and meandering brooks, impenetrable marshes and windblown meadows. There are hundreds of different varieties of birds and animals living in the protection of the parks. And even more different kinds of plant life, from magnificent evergreens to the insect-eating plants of Newfoundland.
