HONEST
In Honest to God? Bill Hybels says
— Christians go through the motions that keep personal faith lukewarm at best and make the Christian lifestyle "mostly a vica^ ious experience."
— that although discussions, seminars, and other activities have value, it is the actual living of the Christian faith that is essential to authenticity in this life.
— that we must become authentic about Christianity. "We must live it."
The author challenges Christians to examine their lifestyles to judge whether they experience totally the changes that God can produce in their lives. Some of the areas that Hybels addresses in the Christian's modern life are
family life
• marriage values male and female role models work
emotional life sound physicalfitness
• spiritual disciplines
Hybels says that "We make an impression on our society by how we live, what we say, and who we are. If we hope to affect others for Christ, we must be affected first."

family life

emotional life sound physicalfitness
• spiritual disciplines
Hybels says that "We make an impression on our society by how we live, what we say, and who we are. If we hope to affect others for Christ, we must be affected first."
Encouraging Christians to go beyond just talking about their faith, the author gives examples of how our lives need to be permeated with Christianity. He notes (continued on back flap)
{continued from front flap)
that we have just come through a decade in which the evangelical Christian has been extremely visible politically, socially, and culturally, but asks - "has authentic Christianity been visible?"
Honest to Gorf?offers practical, down-to-earth suggestions and guidelines, and explores twelve manifestations of inconsistent Christian living that are commonplace today. Underscoring the importance of Christians realizing that "Christianity is a supernatural walk with a living, dynamic, speaking, personal God," he goes on to ask, "Why, then, do so many Christians live inconsistent, powerless lives?"
Hybels describes not just the failures of Christians who have lived inauthentically in the past, but supplies guidance for living in the future according to God's plan. He draws on his own life experiences and foibles to point the way toward the style of Christian living that is authentic and honest-to-God.
Honest to God? is a clarion call to Christians to restore Christianity in their personal lives and thus influence the world.

This is what the/re saying about BiU Ifybels' book:
Bill Hybels, one of the bright stars in today's evangelical world, has performed a great service in Honest to God? He helps Christians deal with unrecognized sin inhibiting our witness in today's secular struggle for a more authentic faith.
Charles W. COLSON Oiatrman of Prison FeUomhlp, author
This is a bold declaration of what it means to be a Christian. Figuring out what discipleship means is difficult these days and this book helped me a lot. Tony CAMPOLO Author, speaker
I can think of no one more sensitively and critically involved in the struggles with those who seek to live life meaningfully and authentically today than Bill Hybels. This is a book for those who want to make a difference in the decade of the '90s. Ted W. ENGSTROM President Ementus, Wortd Vision
Bill understands the questions people are asking, and he's not afraid to take some risks as he thinks through the way of Christ for the 1990s. No one will profit more than the man or woman who is asking fresh questions about what it means to follow after Christ through a tough worid.
Gordon MACDONALD 7WmiKfiaptoiC7iu/r/i
Bill Hybels has an exciting and contagious faith.
R. C. sproul Chairman of the Board, Ligonier Ministries
Hybels' transparent life comes through on every page, and his Godly perception speaks direct y to where we live.
. Kenneth M. Meyer President, mnity Evangelical Divinity school
Bill's mission is noble: to turn the Christian community back to the basics of an authentic, biblically informed lifestyle.
Joe C. ALDRICH President, Multnomah
Bill Hybels is an important spiritual guide in my life. He can be the same for you. I eagerly recommend his book about practical, genuine, honest Christianity.
Kenneth BLANCHARD, Ph.D. Coauthor, The One Minute Manager and The Power of Ethical Management
Bill Hybels has two very strange ideas about the church. One is that Sunday services should be open to (and enjoyed by) people who ordinarily wouldn't be caught dead in a pew. Another is the subject of this refreshing book: Sunday services aren't worth much to anyone unless they affect everything that takes place between services. Philip Yancey Author
Biblical, thoughtful, instructive, and practical. No Christian can read this book and be left unmnvcd or unhelped.
David Allan Hubbard President, Fuller Theological seminary
