Julius Varsányi was born in Esztergom, the ancient capital city of the Árpád Dynasty, seat of the first J kings of Hungary. As a consequence j of the disastrous Trianon Peace j Treaty of 1920 this Central Hungarian town, barely 46 km. from Budapest, became part of the border with Czechoslovakia. The early experience and acquaintance with the problems of the minorities on the other side of the new frontier awoke his initial interest in the fate of ethnic minorities.
After his graduation from the Budapest University taking the doctor juris degree and supplementary studies at the universities of Rome and Milan he entered the public service and was delegated to Berlin and Stockholm as member of the commercial diplomacy and later as the representative of Hungary for foreign trade in Denmark.
