The main emphasis is on the forms of spoken and written English which the businessman or secretary would need to use in communication with clients, customers, visitors and correspondents. In each unit there is an introduction which giVes background information to the practice (and in a few cases, the theory) of secretarial duties. These introductions are based on current practice for secretarial students in the UK, and include descriptions of a secretary's role in various occupations, including reception in a generál office, answering and making International telephone calls, giving directions to foreign visitors, instructions in banking practice and of course, correspondence.
