Britain 1998 is the 49th in a series of annual Official Handbooks, now produced by the Office for National Statistics. Over the years it has established itself as one of the best-known and most respected reference works on Britain. It is the only one that gathers together in a single volume a complete range of official information about the structure and organisation of the UK, and the government policies that underpin 'how Britain works'.
The 1998 edition has been thoroughly updated, and includes tables, maps, diagrams and photographs, as well as the usual comprehensive text on every major aspect of British society. Special features in this edition include:
