The rational assembly of products in the precision and electrical engineering sectors has become a way of reducing costs and improving quality which can be of decisive importance in a competitive situation. In order to find the most economical solution in each individual case, a vast amount of methodological and technical knowledge is required which, until now, was not generally available in a practical form. The present book fills this gap and, moreover, follows the logical course taken by a user in setting up assembly equipment. Starting with a brief introduction showing how assembly fits into the production process, the author first explains the basic principles of product design aimed at facilitating assembly. Here, an ABC analysis especially developed for the purpose serves as a methodological guideline. The ergonomical and economic organization of manual assembly follows. Then primary-secondary analysis, which has proved its worth in practice, is presented.
