Like the hills of Abiquiu before O'Keeffe, the panorama of the Texas Plains canyons has lain largely in ?F obscurity, even to generations of the region's
inhabitants. Yet their coloring and geology have intrigued such artists as Frank Reaugh, Alexander Hogue, and O'Keeffe herself, evoking responses that were powerful but as different as the artists' own cultural preparations. As a confluence of two perspectives shaped by contemporary culture, the photographs and pastels collected here focus on the startling and dramatic character of these West Texas landforms.
