Charles Wood's Cockade Is a trflogy of one-act plays, thefirst of which, 'Prisoner and Escort', bears a curious similarity to the other two plays in this volume, Entertaining Mr Sloane and The Trigon: each has the same basic situation - the : intrusion of an outsider on a party of three people. In One case it 1$ $ giri who stumbles intő a• raiIway com partment in wh ich two döl&iera are escortiflrg a prisoner; in another the íntruder Is an emotionally impotent Don Jua.ní.|^ in the third a brutal and mör(l.erous Adönls. In all three cases the effects. are devastating, but in every other respect the plays are startlingly diverse, and the harsh realism of Charles Wood's play contrasts equally with the subtle undertones of The Trigon and witj^ the highly etylÍ2ed Btáck Comedy of Entertaining Mr Sloane.
