John Coates has taught English pronunciation, phonetics and phonology at universities in Finland, Hungary and Germany (Gottingen) and has ^ been a visiting lecturer in Poland and Portugal. Connected English Speech first appeared in Hungary in 1993. Recent years have seen an increase of interest in intonation and, above all, rhythm - the main emphasis of the book - often accompanied by new terminology.
