CORTISONE THERAPY

This work is the result of several years of intensive study in this country and the U.S.A. of the use of Cortisone and its associated drugs, primarily in the treatment of the rheumatic diseases. The author discusses from practical experience the relative values of Cortisone, Corticotrophin, Hydrocortisone, Prednisone and Prednisolone. The effects of treatment, the advantages and disadvantages, the indications and contraindications, the technique of withdrawal, are analysed, and a broad general picture produced which should be of great value to everyone undertaking treatment with these new and powerful preparations.
Special chapters are devoted to local therapy and Dr. J. G. Beam, Lecturer in Anatomy, Department of Anatomy, Middlesex Hospital Medical School, has written an appendix describing in detail the techniques for intra-articular and soft tissues injections from the anatomical point of view.
