The New Economy is more than hype and high-flying stocks, it is real, and it is something that no company can afford to ignore. Why?
Because today's economy is different from anything we have dealt with before. The New Economy is founded upon the forces of new technologies, globalization, and the increasing importance of intangible assets, such as brands, relationships, and knowledge. Organizations are creating value in new ways, using combinations of tangible and intangible assets heretofore unrecognized.
This book marks the beginning of a journey with a single destination: understanding the drivers of value creation. And It offers a new set of principles called Value Dynamics. Based on a three-year study of 10,000 companies by premier consulting firm Arthur Andersen, Value Dynamics offers new insight into what companies should do to create value in the new millennium.

Scientists in this century have identified the four compounds that make up DNA. Different sequences of these four substances generate the infinite variety of biological life on the planet. As the century turned, scientists had mapped some 90 percent of the human genome. Their goal: to break the biochemical code for each of the 100,000 genes that determine the physical characteristics of the human body.
In today's superheated economies, businesses are in a race to discover the underlying code of value creation. The authors of this book argue that assets (both tangible and intangible) are the basic building blocks of value, the "economic DNA" of businesses. Value Dynamics offers a way to map the unique value-creating characteristics of individual assets and combinations of assets.
What does this mean for you and your organization? Simply this: Every company must embrace a new model of how to create value in the New Economy. Value Dynamics begins that journey.
Physical Customer
\ Financial r Employee Supplier
The authors of this book maintain that organizations thrive or fall based on how they design. Invest In, and manage their entire portfolios of assets. But what assets, and In what combinations, will create the most value for your company In the New Economy? The Value Dynamics Framework (above) provides a way to classify all sources of value in five categories. Including tangible and intangible.
In addition. Cracking the Value Code lays out four easy-to-understand steps to help you create value. Design your business model. Master risk across your entire enterprise. Manage your company as a portfolio of assets. Use Information to measure and report all your assets. The authors' mission Is to help you see, invest In, manage, and measure all that matters In the New Economy.

WHAT BUSINESS LEADERS AND ACADEMICIANS SAY:
"Many have observed that the New Economy is built on intangible assets. By providing both a conceptual framework and a host of instructive examples. Cracking the Value Code goes beyond this observation to help managers Invest wisely in intangibles and derive value from those investments."
— Richard Schmalensee
Dean, MIT Sloan School of Management
"[The authors'] Insights and research begin to lay the Invaluable foundation for a new accounting and disclosure system. This book will Inform both those who want to know where accounting will be heading over the next decade, and those who want to see the patterns of wealth production emerging in companies that deploy soft assets more than hard ones."
-Steve M.H. Wallman, CEO, FOLIO; Senior Fellow. The Brookings Institute
"Too often management books dismiss the 'old economy' in favor of the 'new,' thereby missing the essence of successful management—optimally combining the new with the old, the bricks with the clicks. This book offers an outstanding blend of the new and the old to identify, manage and report corporate value."
— Baruch Lev, Philip Bardes Professor of Accounting and Finance, Director of the Research Project on Intangibles.
"When attempting to calculate the value of a business asset, it's sometimes convenient to pretend that if you can't count it, it doesn't count. We all know that's nonsense—and getting more so; but what's the alternative? Cracking the Value Code faces this conundrum head-on and provides modern, actionable answers." -Sir Martin Sorrell Group Chief Executive, WRP Group pic
"It is not unusual that conventional financial accounting and reporting standards should be regarded as often irrelevant and sometimes highly misleading But now a similar message comes from a team at Arthur Andersen, in a new book called Cracking the Value Code A new language and a new set of principles are required to suit the new economy. [Value Dynamics] aims to put a value on intangible but crucial factors of modern businesses: employee and supplier assets, customer assets and intellectual capital "
