This fine work describes the history of the great library founded at today's Budapest by Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary (1458— 1490), and presents its surviving volumes. The library, which contained one of Europe's greatest collections of illuminated manuscripts, was dispersed during the period of the Turkish conquest, and what remain of this priceless collection are now found in various parts of the world. This lavishly illustrated volume, faithfully produced in colour throughout to bring to life the glowing beauty of the originals, presents manuscripts of the highest standard; it is indeed a library in itself. It is greatly enriched by its scholarly commentary and annotation.
