The "Kyrenia U" , an exact replica of the 4th century BC Greek ship which was raised from the sea off the coast of Kyrenia in 1968, has again made her historic journey across the Greek seas on a voyage
that was both a unique archaeological experiment and a symbolic journey of return. Construction work on the "Kyrenia 11" began in 1983 and took three years to complete at the Perama Shipyard. In September 1986 she set sail, carrying the same amphorae and
merchandise as the original. She was given a warm reception
at all the ports she visited and received an overwhelming welcome on the mythical sea off Paphos. Alas, a return to Kyrenia was not possible
