Antanas Sutkus was born in 1939, in Kluoniskiai (the district of Kaunas). In 1963 he graduated from Vilnius University. Since 1969 A. Sutkus heads the Lithuanian Society of Art Photography. His persönal exhibitions were held in many towns of the Soviet Union, and alsó in Bulgaria, the GDR, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, the USA, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Italy. The phoíographer took part in more than 250 national and international exhibitions and won over 60 awards noteworthy of which are: "Gold Michelangelo" in Italy (1970), the first prize at the exhibition "Man and His Social Environment" in Czechoslovakia (1972), Grand Prix at the International Exhibition "Zlato Oko" in Yugoslavia (1973) and at the 8th International Exhibition "Man and His World" in Poland (1976), the first prize at the contest "For the Socialist Art of Photography" in Bucharest (1982) and others, Since 1976 A.
