The rigidity of the Angliean parish system, argues Bishop Dávid Pytches, is a major hindrance for the church as it prepares to launch the Decade of Evangelism. The mobility of úrban and suburban populations, coupled with the ever increasing varié ty of styles of worship and churchmanship already make a nonsense of the principle of worshipping within the parish one lives in. Yet the principle of worshipping near to home is sound.
Church planting should be part of the agenda, which means working outside the existing parish system. In New Wineskins Bishops Dávid Pytches and Brian Skinner provide cogent arguments for breaking free from the existing boundaries and frustrations, and for relying increasingly upon the lay ministry, thus changing the role of the clergy.
