J. M. W. Turner by David Thomas
David Thomas studied at the Courtauld Institute in London, before becoming a lecturer there in the History of Art. He then worked as Assistant Director of Art at the Arts Council of Great Britain, later becoming an independent writer.
This book concerns the life and work of perhaps one of the greatest English painters, J. M. W. Turner, whose romantic approach to the effects of light and atmosphere preceded the innovations of the Impressionists. He bequeathed over three hundred oils, and nearly twenty thousand drawings, to the nation on his death in 1851.
