A former designer for Laura Ashley and for Ralph Lauren's handknits collection, Jean Moss designs sweaters that are a very successful blend of high fashion and traditional handicraft. In these thirty-three signature designs, familiar patterns such as Fair Isle, cables, and trellises are combined with inspiration taken from the colors and geometry of antique textiles, stained glass, and other glories of the past. The results are flattering, beautiful garments for all occasions, in four broad styles:
Country Garden
Designed with leisurely country days in mind, the eight sweaters in this section were inspired from a wide range of traditional sources, from the bold colors of handmade pottery to the striking textures of Aran sweaters.
Campus
Comfortable and classic, these eight sweaters will be at home on any campus, and anywhere else easy shapes and subtle styling are appreciated.
Club
Wood-paneled drawing rooms and book-lined dens will set off these eight designs, inspired by such diverse influences as the traditional patterns of the Navajo Indians, the Scottish Fair Isles, and the embroideries of the Kuba tribe of Zaire.
City
Nine designs made for a sophisticated urban setting, be it Manhattan, Berlin, or Venice. These are sweaters that meet the demands of every time of day.

Jean Moss has designed sweaters for many international fashion houses and is able to create the kind of couturier styles that are rarely available to handknitters. Her sweaters range from the classically simple to complex multicolor work with raised stitch patterns. All the finished sweaters are illustrated with full-color photographs, and there are full-color stitch charts where appropriate.
These stunning, timeless designs are sweaters to treasure, and will be a joy to wear.
