Basically, the Thai people very generally feel that our lives are ordered rather by the planetary deities than by the planets as cosmic principles. These deities act sometimes in association with other Hindu or local animistic devata, a more religious attitűdé than is catered for by scientific astrology. These planetary deities make known their intentions and give us warnings either by spontaneous omens or by omens that are solicited by diviners. These latter methods can be either simple or complex. In this erudite work, the author discusses the subject in full, considering the question of present-day credibility of the traditional divination as exemplified by educated people in Bangkok. It throws light on Thai beliefs and practices and the influence of the supernatural on the Thai people as they stand almost alone on one bordér of the free world, facing a destiny that may be the most critical in their history.
