approaches being used to monitor and evaluate
local HIV/AIDS work in Britain. It examines a
range of activities in health authorities, local
authorities and voluntary organisations.
For anyone involved in the HIV/AIDS field -

involved in evaluation - Does it work ?
highlights the techniques that can be used
to assess the progress and effectiveness of
different activities. These are as diverse as staff
training programmes, theatre in education
projects, syringe and needle exchange
schemes, and community development work
involving men who have sex with other men.
Does it work ? grew out of a consultation
exercise, convened by the Health Education
Authority, where local HIV/AIDS workers
and evaluators met to share their ideas.
