This dehghtful book by an unblinkered anglophile is the account of a five weeks' visit to Britain. During that time Iván Boldizsár saw many of the conventional sights: he went to Hampton Court, to the City, to various clubs; he visited Oxford and Cambridge; he spent a few days in York and a few hours in Leeds. He also met a number of writers whose names are no less well-knovm in Hungary than in Britain. But to read Mr. Boldizsár's description of these and other activities is to see the familiar with new eyes; the author misses nothing, describes everything sharply, and is constantly amusing. He is constantly amused too, and his criticisms of present-day Britain are by no means unpalatable; rather, they are like the welcome aftertaste of a friendly wine. Mr Boldizsár's connexions with this country are very close; the publication of this delightful book can only make them more so.
