The staid suburbs of Sydney are the setting for this exciting new novel by Dymphna Cusack.
It is at one level the story of two générations living side by side : the middle-aged established Australians following in the traditions, préjudices and safe ways of their immigrant parents and grandparents before them, and the new middle-aged refugee immigrants bringing the good and evil obsessions of the past with them; in contrast are the younger ones, their children, new and old Australians alike breaking the old taboos, burning with zeal and with a real desire to leap the barriers between nations and find a sane way of living that will remove injustice, intolerance and war.
