The catalogue has been compiled by Dr Terrace in cob laboration with Dr Henry G. Fischer, Curator of Egyptian Art at the Metrcv politan Museum. The choice ranges over 4000 years of activity, giving the reader the opportunity to study the full variety of Egyptian art and craftmanship from the earliest historic period to Román times, exemplifíed in a collection of masterpieces of which many have never before been seen outside Egypt. They include such marvels as the wooden panel from the tomb of Hesy'Ra (one of the finest examples of relief carving of the early Old Kingdom); the diorite statue of the Pharaoh Chephren (the builder of the Second Pyramid), which dates from shortly before 2540 bc; the colossal head of the Pharaoh Akhenaten from Karnak and many other great works of sculpture. We are alsó shown such exquisite examples of the minor arts as the Princess Khnumet's jewellery from Dahshur and the Book of the Dead of the Lady Here/ubekhet. This is indeed a book which will be indispensable to every lover of ancient Egyptian art. with 136 illustrations, including 8 colour plates and 7 line drawings Vissza
