THE SERIES
The new FONTANA UNESCO pocket art series will be a complete library of world art. All the illustrations will be specialiy photographed and the texts will be by leading authorities. Encompassing art treasures of all countries, the series ranges from the earliest primitive cave paintings to contemporary painters.

EGYPTIAN SCULPTURES
The Ancient Egyptian sculptures reproduced here were mainly executed between 2600 and 1250 B.C. in the Nile Valley. The most beautiful of these, and the most sophisticated are to be found among the tomb figures. Realising that human remains might not go unmolested for eternity, the Egyptians made an exact replica of the dead man and placed it in his tomb. An infinity of skill and artistry was lavished on work which was to be hidden from sight for ever.
