This book is intended chiefly for the many aduit learners who are working on their own or who cannot spend a lot of time in class. It is particularly suitable for those who have reached or are very near the standard of the Cambridge Lower Certificate and for those who hope to have direct contact with Britain. * Each of the 36 chapters contains a reading text, followed by notes, comprehension questions, and language work related to the texts, and exercises. The work in Part 1 is concerned with structural points and that in Part 2 with problems of usage. A pronouncing vocabulary, index, key, and appendices are included in this edition, but a Class Edition is available, without a key. Dr W. R. Lee's English-teaching and teacher-training activities have taken him to many parts of the world, and he has taught at all levels from the primary school to the university. From 1945 to 1950 he was a lecturer at Prague University, where he gained his Ph.D. Subsequently he spent eight years lecturing and training teachers at the Institute of Education, London, and studied linguistics under J. R. Firth. For two years he was a Language-Teaching Adviser to the British Council. He is the editor of English Language Teaching. Vissza
