Epilepsy is a serious and complicated disorder in any patient but when it occurs in
schoolchildren and young adults special problems are encountered. This book
tackles the issues under three main headings. Section I deals with the social im-
plications of epilepsy in young people, for example in education and employ-
ment, driving and in personal relationships. In Section II the latest therapies are
described: choosing appropriate therapy, when and how to treat with drugs,
non-drug therapy, and the problems of drug withdrawal. Finally, the authors
of chapters in Section III present the latest research in epilepsy, concentrating on
non-convulsive status epilepticus, ambulatory EEG monitoring, photosensitivity
and new investigatory techniques.
