One of the most admirable characteristics of the present day business executive is his interest in his own health and that of his employees. Yet in somé executives this concern with their own health has led to erroneous impressions. Yet in somé executives this concern with their own health has led to erroneous impressions. These are doubtless due to the amazing variety of health advice now available and, perhaps, to the executives' own gullibility. Many of their apprehensions about health are unnecessary. This book gets at the essentials of health-what every executive needs to know in order to keep himself in good condition both now and in the future. Realizing that the executive drives for advancement and works more hours than most persons, Dr. Shepard counsels him on how to deal with pressure by pointing out that . . . clrinking in moderation may do him more good than harm . . . smoking, except in excess, is not necessarily harmful . . . vacations should not be pinned down to a totál length or to a certain period of the year . . . self-concern is the executive's chief mentől hazard . . . there is no occupational hazard in being an executive But there are many things, says the author, that clamage an executive's health. Among these are: . . . the use of tranquilizers . . . self-medication . . . over-indulgence, inclucling over-relaxation . . . cloing things that irritate him, such as commuting or too much socializing From his forty years' experience with executives and employees, Dr. Shepard has culled many symptoms, case histories and cures relevant to the maintenance of good health and top efficiency. As medical (Continuecl on back flap)
director of the world's largest life insurance company he has had access to and has compiled statistics that support the soundness of his recommendations. With the wit and humor he has gained through this long practice he penetrates the foibles and pretensions of people in positions of responsibility and authority, whether meri or ivotnen. This is a book to help the executive understand how vitai good health is to his and his employees' suecess. It can be of real value not only to him but to the management of the concern with which he is associated. THE AUTHOR William P.
