The book represents a collection of papers on the finite element analysis of thin shell structures, most of which were presented at a conference at Cardiff, Wales in May 1974. In contrast to the usual conference proceedings however, the chapters in this book have been preselected to give a coverage of the component parts of the topic and have been edited to minimize duplication and give unified nomenclature insofar as is possible. The major areas covered are: past developments, basic theory, alternative methods of formulation and practical application.
To date, the finite element analysis of thin shell structures has been covered in books only to the extent of one or two chapters, if at all. Information regarding this important application of the finite element method has been scattered about the periodical literature and conference proceedings. Thus, the present work collects and co-ordinates this data. The numerical data from 'standard' comparison cases should be useful to those planning new developments. Information is also given here to those seeking formulations of verified accuracy and efficiency. Vissza
