What is nature's influence on Finnish visual art, architecture and design? An attempt to answer this and other questions is made in this book. Finns live close to nature, which is not only a source of inspiration but is in many concrete ways present in our visual arts.
Another markedly characteristic Finnish feature is the unbroken connection with folk tradition, whose rich but functionally simplified form language is still a feature especially in our design and architecture.
On the other hand, international art movements have also enriched Finnish I expression which, for its own part, has / gained international importance. In architecture, for example, Alvar Aalto's humane functionalism and design are world-famous.
