Candidates for the First Certificate have to perform such a variety of communication tasks in the oral section of the examination that anyone who is adequately prepared for it would experience few linguistic difficulties in the everyday communication situations he might encounter when visiting, working, or studying in Britain. Consequently, although the form of the majority of exercises in this book are modelled on the form of those in the examination, the usefulness of the skills that the learner will practise and develop when working through it will not be limited to the examination context. Accompanying the course are five twin-track tapes or cassettes. A Teacher's Edition is alsó available. The syllabus of the Cambridge First Certificate in English examination covers a rangé of oral arid written language skills which are essential to intermediate and post-intermediate students who wish to progress in their knowledge of and ability to use the English language. The books published by Oxford University Press for use in preparing for the examination reflect that rangé and satisfy that wish.
